SANTA MARIA DEL MOLISE

Santa Maria del Molise is a small village made unique by a few distinctive features: the waters of the Rio, which flow through the entire town in small water channels, and the ancient stone-roofed houses known as "le lisce." Its abundance of water, which is also believed to have inspired the village's ancient name "Capo d'Acqua," is the main reason for the presence of numerous and charming mills, now fully restored, that mark the traces of its history.

The Parco dei Mulini, an enchanting place immersed in greenery, just a few steps from the estate. Here, the scenery is idyllic, with picturesque streams alternating with romantic waterfalls. These are fed by the waters of the Rio river; the park's name is due to the presence of ancient mills, which once served as the village's water supply.

Passing through the center of Santa Maria del Molise and ascending the mountain, it’s easy to reach the hamlet of Sant'Angelo in Grotte : a charming place with its small medieval village and its scenic viewpoint. Here, you’ll find the Church of San Pietro in Vincolis, rebuilt based on an ancient 18th-century design, the crypt discovered in the early 1950s, and frescoes from the late 14th century.

Descending along the staircase adjacent to the bell tower of the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo , a breathtaking view opens up—a scenic overlook where it seems as if you can touch the peak of Mount Miletto. Passing through precious bronze portals, you enter the beautiful cave of San Michele ; a spring with water trickling from the rock, and a hole that legend says was the entrance to the underground path of San Michele leading to Gargano.
